Denseflower cordgrass

Spartina densiflora

Denseflower cordgrass (Spartina densiflora) is an invasive plant. It is a native of Chile and was first detected in California.

Spartina densiflora is a rhizomatous perennial grass found in salt marshes. It tolerates high salinity and grows especially well in higher tidal marsh, where it is known to displace native plants. The species’ abundant seed has the potential to disperse over long distances by floating on water.
