Asiatic rice borer

Chilo suppressalis

Asiatic rice borer (Chilo suppressalis) is an insect pest of rice. It is a native of Asia and was first detected in Hawaii in 1927.

This moth is a highly destructive stem borer of rice. This is especially true in more temperate areas, due to the ability of larvae to survive low temperatures. Up to 6 generations can occur each year. Some pesticide resistance has been observed for this species.

For more information about this plant pest, see the CAPS data sheet.
