Japanese spongy moth (Lymantria dispar japonica) is an insect pest of variety of hardwood trees. It is a native of Asia.

All species of lymantria dispar share similar biology and ability to become a pest. This species is native to Japan. Damage to trees occurs as larval caterpillars defoliate the branches.
