Apple maggot

Rhagoletis pomonella

Apple maggot (Rhagoletis pomonella) is an insect pest of apples and other fruits. It was first detected in New Hampshire in 1905.

The apple maggot is a fly pest of several fruits, mainly apples. Young maggots consume the fruit and cause it to bruise and decay, before finally dropping to the ground before ripening. The maggots overwinter as pupae in the soil.
