Brazilian pepper (Schinus terebinthifolius) is an invasive plant. It was first detected in Hawaii in 2011.
Brazilian pepper trees have invadedinto native brush habitat, especially along barrier islands and sandy coastal regions, choking out other critical native species. Brazilian pepper has infested 700 acres in Florida, where its dense shade canopy kills other plants. This pest poses a large risk to U.S. plant health. International commerce provides recognized avenues of introduction.
