Christmas berry webworm (Cryptoblabes gnidiella) is an insect pest of avocado, citrus, and grapes. It is a native of Mediterranean and was first detected in Hawaii.
Infestation by this moth usually occurs coincident with attack by other pests (scale insects, mealybugs) as the caterpillar consumes honeydew. Many do not consider this to be a pest species, but infested trees can experience premature fruit drop, which can affect economic production.
For more information about this plant pest, see the CAPS data sheet and the CABI data sheet.
