Winter moth

Operophtera brumata

Winter moth (Operophtera brumata) is an insect pest. It was first detected in Oregon in 1984.

Tiny young larvae feed in buds and damage young leaves. Fruit trees and bushes such as apple, blueberry, cherry, and crabapple are attractive hosts. Adults emerge in December and fly in the early evening hours.
