Horned oak gall wasp

Callirhytis cornigera

Horned oak gall wasp (Callirhytis cornigera) is an insect pest of various oak species. It was first detected in Virginia in 1986.

Normally infestations of these gall wasps are of minor importance, but heavy infestations have been detected in several Florida counties. Under heavy infestations trees experience branch dieback, crown thinning, and mortality.
