Glassy-winged sharpshooter (Homalodisca vitripennis) is an insect pest of vineyards and orchards. It is a native of sourtheastern United States and was first detected in California in 1990.
A vector of the bacterium, Xylella fastidiosa, which causes Pierces's disease of grape and various othe plant diseases threatening to California's agriculture.
