Camphor shot borer (Cnestus mutilatus) is an insect pest of nursery trees. It is a native of Asia and was first detected in Mississippi in 1999.
This large ambrosia beetle infests nursery trees throughout the southeastern U.S.A. The beetles are active between March and September and may have multiple generations per year. Due to the beetle's size, large entrance and emergence holes are created in infested trees. Insecticides may provide some protection to young nursery trees.
