Sixtoothed bark beetle

Ips sexdentatus

Sixtoothed bark beetle (Ips sexdentatus) is an insect pest of pine species. It is a native of Europe and Asia and was first detected in Mississippi in 2020.

This bark boring beetle attacks fresh cut wood and weakened, stressed trees. Bluestain fungus is associated with the beetle. This is just one of many forest pests that are moved to un-infested forests by humans moving firewood. Help protect our forests: don't move firewood!

For more information about this plant pest, see the CAPS data sheet.
