West indian cane weevil (Metamasius hemipterus) is an insect pest of sugarcane, palms and bananas. It is a native of Central and South America and was first detected in Florida in 1984.
Considered a pest of priorly damaged crops, this weevil can be a precursor for the more destructive palmetto weevil.
