Velvet longhorned beetle (Trichoferus campestris) is an insect pest. It is a native of Asia and Russia and was first detected in Illinois in 2009.
This beetle preferentially attacks orchard trees but is found on a wide range of forest and landscaping trees. It is also able to develop in very dry wood and could be a pest of structural timbers. This is just one of many pests that are moved to un-infested trees by humans moving firewood. Help to protect our forests: don't move firewood!
For more information about this plant pest, see the CAPS data sheet.
