Asian tiger mosquito

Aedes albopictus

Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) is an insect pest. It is a native of Southeast Asia.

This mosquito has become a significant pest in many communities due to its close association with humans. Adults typically fly and feed during daylight hours, as well as at dusk and dawn. Biting diverse host species enables the Asian tiger mosquito to be a potential bridge vector for certain pathogens, for example West Nile Virus, which can jump species boundaries.
