European Shothole Borer (Anisandrus dispar) is an insect pest of Europe. It was first detected in Massachusetts in 1817.
This beetle is also known as the European Shot-hole borer. It is an Ambrosia Beetle of concern for young chestnut trees. The adults tunnel into host sapwood for colonization. They form an ectosymbiotic relationship with fungi which they transport into host trees. This is just one of many forest pests that are moved to un-infested forests by humans moving firewood. Help protect our forests: don't move firewood!
