Thousand cankers disease (Geosmithia morbida) is a fungal pathogen of Black Walnut. It was first detected in New Mexico in 2001.
Transmitted by the Walnut Twig Beetle, this disease is devastating Black Walnut Trees in the Western United States. The first infestation east of the Mississippi was detected in Tennessee in the summer of 2010. This is just one of many forest diseases that is moved to un-infested forests by humans moving firewood. Help protect our forest treasures: don't move firewood!
